Trixie got up and glared at the little girl thinking Dan didn't see. B.U.T He did. [Trixie. SIt down. Now.] His vocals were very deep and his southern draw got thicker and he was pissed. Trixie rolled her amazing blue orbs as Dan's amaziing blue eyes watched Trixie's. She replied turning around, [What?!] Dan was getting pissed and stood up replying, [Trixie if you have a problem with her tell me now, now or never Missy.] She rolled her eyes, [Now you don't roll your eyes at me Missy, Getup stairs.] Dan replied almost yelling. [Dad! I mean... Dan...] SHe was so shocked she called his her dad already. SHe stormed up the stairs and slammed her door and screemed. Dan sat down and replied, [Sorry. She's kinda my daughter I guess now. Her mom was my sister. But I was adopted and she died so i get Trixie. No you'll stay in the house. Your going to get th e same treatment as Trixie and you must listen to me and no lip. You'll have chores but not loads. No slacking and you will be going to school.] He was trying to get it in her head it was going to be like her dad and her house. He wanted to her to MAYBE some day think of himas that as the smae with Trixie for it was already seeming to work.

Kelly wasn't sure about all this. She hated conflict and even more she hated causing it. She had always hated it when her mom got in arguments with her dad, protecting her. The way he said it didn't sound all that nice, but Kelly could tell he meant well. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad to stay here, but she had a feeling things would go wrong. She was old enough to know that there were implications when a child ran away. There might be people looking for her and if they found her, they would just send her to another home until her dad was out of jail. "You're not my father. I'm not like Trixie, I have one of those. But we can try it. Buzz needs to be groomed and excercized." She didn't know what kind of chores he had in mind, but she wasn't going to let anyone else take care of her pony.

Dan was feeling more and more like a damn father and they weren't even fricken his and Dan was getting pissed and he stood up. He walked to the kitchen ignoring Kelly. He was sick it when they always threw that in his face, "YOUR NOT MY FATHER!" the hell he is. They are living under his house so its his rules. He gave Trixie any horse she wanted ad she didn't want one and now the youngest one wont listen. Dan turned to her in a very serious vocals, He turned around to the sink with his hands on both sides with his head hanging past his shoulders so annoyed and unsure what really to do. He sighed as he looked out the window ans saw Carhartt. He was with another stud and the younger stud was making Carhartt pissed and Carhartt woudn't stand for that. Dan sighed as he slowly walked to the door in his boots and grabbed his Carhartt jacket threw it on and opened the door to take Carhartt out.

Kelly realized she'd made him mad, but she hadn't meant to, and she wasn't sure why. She hadn't been accusing, merely matter of fact that she wasn't really an orphan. She thought that was pretty pertinent information if the authorities came looking for her. She looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes. "I'm perfectly open to following your rules if they're reasonable. I just don't know what you expect. I don't mind doing chores. I really like horse chores, but my mother was teaching me to cook, and I can do laundry and wash dishes and I always keep my room really neat." The more nervous Kelly got, the better her grammar became and the bigger words she used. It was kind of a defense mechanism she'd aquired from reading so much. She read at a level much higher than most her age because it had been a good way to occupy herself when her father was drunk and angry.

He shook his head agreeing she seemed like a little girl who was capable of all that but much less was needed. Only doing dishes and keeping tjhe house nice and taking care and school was really all needed. Dan was still pissed at Trixie and sat on the couch and turned on the TV to CMT and the TOP 20 was on and started to watch it. he soflty tossd the remote to Kelley and replied, [ you watch what ever you want.] He smiled lightly letting her know he didn't care.

Kelly liked to read more than she liked to watch TV. Her father hadn't even paid for cable after her mom had passed away. "Is it okay if I go see Buzz?" She wasn't used to asking to go see her pony. Usually her dad had just wanted her to stay out of his way. She had spent most of her time reading in her room or riding or taking care of Buzz. And she wanted to make sure he was okay in a new place. He was an easy going pony, but his world had been turned upside down too.

He nodded and replied slowly, [Yes you may, you can ride but please be in before 9:30. Schools tomorrow.] He smiled as he made a get along otiong with his hand as he smiled and took the channel changer and changed it to CMT and began watching the OLD Dukes of Hazzard and smiled. He felt like a single dad with one good child (kelly) andone bad (Trixie). While he watched this Trixie sat on her bed hugging her pillow and crying she missed her mom so bad. She walked to the window and loked at the winter stars and cried harder knowing her momma was up there.

Kelly's face broke into a smile and she skipped out the door, closing it softly behind her. She ran across the yard and into the stable where Buzz was munching on hay. The pony lifted his head and nickered when she appeared. She slipped into his stall, leaving the door open. Buzz wouldn't go anywhere unless she did. She patted his neck and smiled. "Things might work out here Boy. Dan is nice and wants me to stay. We could live on a real ranch. Dad won't be able to yell at us any more." She lay her head against his satiny neck, fingers playing in his mohawk mane. The pony stood quietly, used to being leaned against. Kelly straightened and headed down the aisle, telling Buzz to stay. She needed to groom him, but she hadn't been able to bring her grooming supplies with her. Having so many horses, Dan must have lots of brushes somewhere. She found the tack room and found a grooming bucket with everything she needed. She was heading back to her pony's stall when she heard a surprised exclamation of a bad word.
Matt had just finished grooming one of the horses and was going to get some liniment for a lame horse when he noticed one of the stall doors open. A few of the stalls were left empty, but none of the doors were ever left swung open into the aisle so he went to check. Inside he found a very strange looking pony munching happily at his hayrack. Dan hadn't told him anything about a new horse and there wasn't much use for ponies on a spread like this. He shut the stall door and stood there for a second, looking a little bewildered.
The man standing at Buzz's stall didn't look anything like Dan. He was tall and dark and looked dangerous, but he also looked lonely. She paused a second as a large dog settled on its haunches at his feet. It looked like a wolf! Kelly loved animals of any kind and was curious about this strange looking man and his wolf, but she was also a little scared. "Uh mister. Dan said it was okay, honest. Buzz might need to switch stalls, but Dan said he could stay. I'm Kelly and he's Buzz. You have a really cool dog."
Matt just stared at the little girl that suddenly appeared in the aisle near him. This was another thing Dan hadn't mentioned. She didn't look anything like Dan, but she might be another long lost bit of family like that city girl who'd showed up. He'd never been much good with kids, just tolerated them, but she wasn't afraid of him and she liked Rebel. No emotion crossed his dark features, but inside he was feeling a little confused. "Well uh, I'm Matt. That's Rebel." If nothing else, he was surprised that she wasn't afraid of the wolfdog. Most adults backed away at the sight of the heavy chested dog. "You got a funny looking horse." He'd read about horses like Buzz but had never seen one. He was used to Quarter Horses and mustangs.
Kelly grinned. He wasn't scary at all. Just different. She tilted her head at him, studying his features. "You look like and Indian and you have a wolf." She smiled proudly at his mention of Buzz, even if the comment wasn't really a compliment. "He's a Norwegian Fjord Horse. But he's 14.1 hands high, so technically he's a pony. His breed comes from across the ocean, but Buzz was born in America. You work on a ranch, do you have a horse?" Kelly was always curious and had found the best way to get information was to ask lots of questions.
Matt found himself likeing this talkative little girl with her foreign pony. He grinned a little at her comment about him looking like an Indian. "Cause I'm half injun, Apache. But I promise not ta scalp ya." He glanced down the aisle to where his own gelding was stabled. "Yeah, Tex is a paint mustang. Don't look nothing like Buzz here. I gotta get back to work, but you need help with anything, just holler." He nodded to her and then motioned to Rebel and the pair headed down the aisle to work on another horse.
Kelly watched them leave with interest. That was a pair she wanted to get to know better. Matt acted like he never talked to people. Maybe she could be his friend. She turned back to Buzz and slipped into his stall. All of her things were still in the corner and she extricated her saddle, blanket, and bridle. She gave Buzz a good grooming and checked his hooves. The long trip of the day before seemed to have had no ill effects on the hardy pony.
