Karen was enjoying her first day off since opening her small veterinary clinic. She should really be home unpacking boxes, but she had decided that such a grogeous day shouldn't be wasted indoors. So she'd tacked up her old paint mare, purchased a map of the local trails, and headed out with her two dogs racing ahead. Roy was a big yellow lab and Shasta was a Rhodesian Ridgeback. They were great friends and loved to romp along whenever Karen went on a trail ride. Today they were especially excited since this was all new territory. Karen felt like a real adventurer, with a canteen across the horn and a rifle in a sheath on the side of her saddle. She'd grown up hunting with her father, but she'd never had to use a gun in self-defense before. She'd been told that it was a good idea to have protection since there were several large predators in this area. Between the dogs and the gun, Karen felt quite safe. Her mare was quite old, but still had plenty of spunk. Surprise had been given to Karen 12 years ago and Karen would never sell her. The pair were very close and though Surprise could be hardheaded, so could Karen. They took the first half mile at a walk, letting Surprise warm up and Karen admire her surroundings. When they came to a long flat section, Karen urged the paint into an easy lope.

The sun was playing hide and seek with the thick dark clouds that stood in the grey gloomy sky but the air was hot and very musty as a large buckskin stallion stumble trippingon his lazy western pistons as a cowboy eased on the stallions moving bodice riding with no saddle or pad just a his cowoby butt on the tan colored pelt. The stallion was very lazy but could sure get up and go. He was only five but was the best horse he had ever owned and trained axperienced on every ranch work and all western.

The dogs were racing up ahead, doing wide circles around Karen as usual. They were the first to note the prescence of another rider. They barked excitedly and went tearing back to Karen and her paint mare. Karen was used to riding with the pair and knew that something or someone was around the next bend. Surprise smoothly moved from a lope to a walk. As they rounded the bend, Karen came face to face with what had excited the dogs. Her eyes automatically darted to the horse. Nice animal. Big, clean lines, probably a Quarter Horse. She turned her attention to the rider, smiling. "Well fancy seeing you out here Mr. Kelley."

Seeing two dogs Cinch Dan's Border Collie, Cinch began to bark and lunged at them playfully trying to be friendly. The ranch was really good for him with him rulling over 50 other ranch dogs. Dan smiled as he turned seeing Karen. Dan smiled andheard her soft and sweet vocals and replied, [Howdy! But you can just call me Dan. How are you Karen?] He stopped Monty as the buckskin slid a little bit only showing a little reining as dan leaned back with ease with great riding skills. Dan had his famous black cowboy hat which looked very goo on hud buckskin matching the lang dark black dorsal stripe on the stallions spinal. Monty smelt that there was two mares and a little bit of the stallion showed in him as he snorted takingin their sents and Dan noticed and back ed him up thenwalked him forward with his head kept down in a beautiful elegance as Dan smiled lightly as he watched Cinch trying to make friends with the other dogs.

Both Roy and Shasta were good with other dogs, but Shasta was Roy's female and he would brook no other male messing with her. He gave a stiff wag of the tail, circling the other male before dashing back off down the trail when Shasta nipped his tail and took off. Karen laughed at the antics of her dogs as they raced off. "Roy gets a little jealous and Shasta still thinks she's a puppy." Surprise came to a halt as Karen put slight pressure on the reins. Stopping her at a gallop was slightly more difficult, the mare loved to run. The old paint did little more than prick her ears at the stallion's interest. She'd been known to kick stallions that got too fresh.
Karen noted Dan's excellent riding skills and well trained horse. But then again, he did own a huge sprawling ranch, plenty of time for practice. Karen was a good rider, but not very polished. She'd taken three years of English lessons before showing got too expensive and time consuming. Now she just rode western or bareback on the trails. She had an easy seat and light hands and loved the wind in her face. She and Surprise were well suited for each other, not too polished with a need for speed. "Just fine, avoiding packing. How about yourself?"

Cinch saw the cutelittle female run away as he chased after her playfully not caring about the male and setting his mind on her as the large buckskin stallion slowly stumbled on the small game path as Dan smiled and repeid, [Yah when Cinch sets his mind on someth'n he either get it or dies try'n and it seems hes set his mind on your lil female right there.] Dan laughed a bit as Carhartt nickered softly to the mare as Dan backed him up harsh on his mouth and carhartt proceeded what he was asked only refuding the first half second then snapped back from the stallion stage and obeyed backing up feircly then stopping as he was told to take a few steps forward then stop. Dan looked around and then laughed at her comment of not wanting to unpack and replied, He looked around at the shining beauty of the woods that went on for miles and didn't stop till it hit the ends of the earth. Carhartts ears pricked up hearing sound of rustling then it stopped so no alarm was sent to the stallion. The stallion was huge in muscles and very beautiful. His markings were perfect and awsomely perfect. His blood lines had the amazing Spirit of the Conemeron stallion (a REAL stallion) the mustang who Dan would never castrate and ruin any chance of not breeding him. For Carhartt had yet to be bred and was only going to be bred a little bit and no over do it. Dan stare with his amazing blue eyes as the the black cowboy hat hid under them with his black Carhartt jeans and his white t-shirt that had ripped sleeves that showed his amazingly muscular arms. Two studs stood infornt of the Karen and her two girls.

Shasta wasn't really very little, for a Rhodesian Ridgeback, she was about average and stood several inches higher than the collie. She was young and still had a puppyish playfulness about her. With a yip, she darted into the sagebrush after a rabbit. She never caught her quarry, just enjoyed chasing it. Roy was right beside her and had decided to ignore the other male. Karen did not appreciate when he got into fights.
Karen frowned slightly as she watched the three dogs dash off. Roy was good natured, but he was a male and would take only so much pushing. She would be less than pleased if Dan's dog started a fight over Shasta. "Yes well, Roy and Shasta get on well together. Your dog may have trouble there and he better not cause trouble with Roy." Karen was usually easy going and all smiles, but she was deadly serious about the well being of her animals and she was a vet after all. She had no intentions of having to stitch up Roy. She had to smile though as she watched Dan wrestle with his stallion. It seemed that he and his animals were similar. Big males who liked to do as they pleased.
Karen loved to travel and see knew places. She preferred to live in a small town and have stability at home, but she loved to travel. "I love to see new places, explore other cultures. I've been to most of the states, Alaska is by far my favorite, although the Grand Canyon in Arizona was nearly as impressive. I've done a little out of country travel. Belize is my favorite of those, but I really want to see Ireland. I'm planning a trip for next summer if all goes well."
She urged Surprise into a slow walk, ready to get moving again. She kind of hoped Dan would follow, but if he didn't, it was still a beautiful morning. The paint mare gave the big stud no mind. She was old and past caring about young and too eager stallions. Dan's good looks were not lost to Karen, but she wasn't overwhelmed. In the city she'd gone to college, she come across several good looking boys who were more smooth talking and she wasn't bad looking herself. She was a little on the plain side, but had a well formed body with curves in all the right places and a strong physique from wrestling with horses and cattle on a daily basis. Karen liked to take things slow getting to know a person though talk around town was that Dan was a good guy.

Hearing the dogs Dan smiled as Cinch ran after them in lead as he barked at the rabbit as he then slowed down next to the female and barked playfully to her ignoring the male knowing he wouldn't start nothing Dan taught him to much to do that. Dan was kinda pissed at her coment so a very loud whistle which brought his musclar broad bucksin named Carhartt's ears up. As the whistle stopped Cinch stopped turned aroun to Dan and ran back and sat next to Carhartt leaning on his front legs. Almost every normal horse would flip out but Carhartt made no moves he didn't even care Cinch was adorable and very lean but not skinny. He too had amazing muscle mass but probably Carhartt was the best. Although Dan was quite good looking too. Dan's arms were perfectly shaped with his arms loking amazing with the strength. His shirt was tight but he had no fat what so ever as he had a six back and his abs were perfectly shaped. His face was perfect clean shaved and perfect paportion. But hearing Karen's first coment about Cinch he replied deeply as his redneck vocals, Dan looked down at Cinch with Cinch's long pink tungue was hanging out as he looked up at Dan with the cutest face. He was only two. As the mare and the girl walked by Carhartt got Surprise's sent and went a little stallion headed. Dan thought taking a long trail ride with the Karen wouldn't be bad so he lightly pushed his left spur into the barrel of the buckskin and a one second huanch turn was flown to the way they were headed. Dust flew up as Cinch just stood taking a few stepps away then followed. the two riders. As the stallion showed his amazing reining skills he trotted slowly to the mare as Dan only told him to walk as Dan firmly replied, [WALK] Carhartt threw his large AMQ stallion head in the air Dan got pissed. The only reason Carhartt did this was the mare. Dan yanked hard on his mouth as the stallion backed rapidly with dust flying. Dan then kept pulling as Carhartt kept leaing back as Dan firmly very forcingly, [WOHW] The stallion stopped with his head down obeying now knowing he got in trouble and slowly took a step obeying Dan as he caught up to Surprise and Karen. Dan replied respectfully, [Sorry about that. He's only four and still in train'n.] Dan smiled at Karen sweetly under his black cowboy hat with his amazing blue orbs looking at her. This was the first time he really noticed her looks. she was attractive never really thought about that. He was different then all most every man, not a horny bastard. He looked into a girl's heart and horse.... (lol) He heard her reply about traveling and replied, [That's cool. I've only been to states for a rodeo so never got to look around. But I haven't gone to a rodeo in about 3 years of so. Ever since Ma and Pa died I've been taking care of the Ranch. It's pretty hard taking care of the largest independent cattle ranch in the nation, and I DEFFINITLY dont want to let it go to the shits.] He smiled lightly as Cahartt tried not looking at the Surprise for just looking at her got him aroused.

Karen's dogs were pretty well-behaved, but not special trained. Roy was obedient, but a male dog who thought his territory was being trespassed on could be unpredictable. Karen had had to stich up his ear once from a dogfight that had been indirectly caused over Shasta, so she was a little overprotective. Roy and Shasta's ears pricked at the whistle, but it wasn't one they recognised so they continued their exploration of this new trail.
Karen watched as the Border Collie came racing back. He was the picture of health and he had come back as soon as Dan whistled. It always made Karen happy to see people taking good care of their animals. His stallion was magnificent and if Surprise had been a few years younger, Karen might have considered breeding her, but as a vet, she knew it wasn't a very good idea. "You have some gorgeous animals you know. How's the paint you brought over last week?"
She laughed as she watched the young stallion act up. Surprise snorted lightly at the young buck. She was a been there done that kinda horse. Not much excited her any more. "I can understand that. I have a little 2-year-old colt I'm working with. He catches on pretty quick, but he does some goofy things when he gets excited."

Dan's head moved in a nod as his black cowboy hat went down as he nodded then his deep vocals replied, [Well thank you very much Ma'am. Um... Rocky? He's good. He's on vaction for about two and a half weeks making sure he recovers.] At the Y Z if a horse or dog got hurt and needed rocovery they would always keep them a week and half extra just to make sure they would heal it was on the safe side. He lightly told Carhartt to walk and the stallion walked slowly next to her and Surprise smiled. He looked at her for a second and if she looked at him he turned his head looking forward. Cinch turned looking at the female and walked to her and sniffed her and ignored the other male and walked to her again sniffing her again but respectfully.

When Karen had been young, she'd wanted to run a breeding farm with Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds, but that required a lot of capital. And it had been more of a whim than a real dream, but she still always kept her eye out for a good Appendix. She thought that a Quarter Horse x Thoroughbred cross would make the perfect horse if the foal inherited the QH temperament and the TB speed. "I'm glad he's doing well. That was a nasty place to get a spine stuck." She was even more pleased to hear that Dan had taken her advice seriously and Rocky wouldn't pull up lame because of being sent back to work too early.
Surprise kept to a long slow walk of her own violition. Her head was held low in the position of a good western pleasure horse. It was the only gait that she had good slow form in. As soon as Karen asked her for speed, she could be quite hard to hold back or pull up. Karen glanced over at Dan and grinned when he quickly faced forward again.
Shasta allowed herself to be sniffed, but wasn't willing to stay still for very long. Another enticing scent soon had her dashing off again. Roy was warming to the other male's prescence and gave a short wag of his tail before dashing after Shasta.

There was a small meadow with a large stream running through it and Dan thought for a second as Carhartt already knew what was going to happen. With a light kick with dull spurs on the barrel of the buckskin stud and a kissing sound from Dan Carhartt was of. He was like a bullet as his black strong legs flew out stretching out as they dug into the dry ground as it kicked up dirt and made a dust path behind the flying stud. This horse was capable of amazing speed and Dan was holding him back cause he kne if he let him go he would be hard to stop. The stallion flew through the tall praire grass as the stream began closer as it came up instead of jumpig over it he plowed through it as Dan and Carhartt got soaked as a big smile was on the wet cowboy. His black cowboy hat wasn't wet though so it was all good. Dan replied firmly, [Whow] as the stallion slid in reining formation and turned facing the girls as Cinch was barking after them as he ran through the stream too all soaked too. Dan smiled his sweet cowboy way as Carhartt shook getting all the water off as he looked at Surprise and lightly nickered to her trying to be a little flirtatious as Dan knew it but said nothing about it, not atleast yet.

The competitive paint mare lunged forward a split second after the stallion. It usually irritated her when riders took off without warning their riding partners, but she thought that it was kinda cute how he was showing off. She let Surprise stretch out into a gallop, but held her at an easy pace, not knowing the trail very well. She had no intention of getting soaked and it had been years since Surprise had jumped, so she fought the mare back to a walk and took it easy through the stream. Surprise was excited now and slow was not what she wanted. She sidestepped, tossing her head as Karen held her in. Once the old mare got going, she didn't like to stop.
Roy stopped in the middle of the stream and yipped to Shasta who soon joined him. The lab loved water and it had rubbed off on Shasta. They went running upstream, Roy stopping to shove his whole head underwater when he saw the shadow of a darting fish. Karen laughed at her goofy dog. Her parents' house had a pool and whenever she visited them, Roy spent most of his time swimming.

Carhartt's was totaly normal like nothinghappened asDan sat on the back of the beautiful stud without a saddle. Dan had a great seat and go for ever in a full blast bolt and stay on even if the horse decided to buck. He loved riding he turned carhartt as he slowly walked into the deeper thicker parts of the woods were all the cougars and bears were spotted.
Cinch watch the other two sitting in the water watching a bit lonely as he lightly braked at them. He wanted to play and rough around. He jumped in the water and went on his back and rolled all over in it no completely soaked and dirty. He stood up barked at the female and ran to them as he watched the male trying to get a fish. Cinch shook as the water flew off and he barked playfully as he circled around them trying to get the female to play.

Karen didn't even try to settle Surprise down. She knew the mare would eventually figure out that they weren't going to be running again soon. The paint mare jigged between a walk and a trot, ignoring the tight rein. Karen had been planning to take a shorter loop, but reined the paint after Dan, figuring he would know the good trails and wouldn't get her lost.
Shasta nipped the collie and took off running. When going full out, Ridgebacks could go nearly as fast as Greyhounds. Roy dashed off after her, several steps behind her, but he was used to being left in the dust when she took off.
