Lizzy ushered Tommy back to the dilapidated little car and drove it over to the guest house Dan had indicated. She just sat there with the car running for a minute, looking at their new home. She was used to change, but this was flying at her far too quickly. Her new boss was a good looking cowboy who appeared to be friendly and very generous. Her new job was not serving meals, or washing clothes, but working with huge animals she'd never even been near before. Tommy got out of the car excitedly and his door slamming was what prompted Lizzy to cut the engine and get out herself. Pilot and Tommy were already in the house and Tommy was shouting for her to come look. She grabbed the suitcase that carried their neccesities, clothes, toiletries, food for Pilot, and headed inside. It was a well furnished single story house, but Tommy had already found the attic converted into a bedroom and claimed it as his and Pilot's. Lizzy didn't like having him so far away, but gave in when she saw how excited he was. Lizzy chose a bedroom that was well lit from several windows. She put her suitcase on the bed and sat down beside it. It was hard to take all of this in. But she never sat for long, there was always so much to do. She wasn't going to unpack much because she didn't know how long they would be staying. She had doubts about her ability to do anything with the horses and cattle. But she would try.
Tommy brought his meager store of belongings up to his new hideaway and spent the evening looking out of his window and watching the horses and cattle. Lizzy spent the evening aquainting herself with the kitchen and fixing a quick meal for the two of them. After they ate and Lizzy cleaned up, she tucked Tommy into bed and looked through her wardrobe for something to wear in the morning. She found an old pair of jeans that was worn at the knee and hugged her hips more than the slacks she usually wore. She didn't have any boots, so sneakers would have to do. She had a bandana that would hold her hair and an old long sleeve T-shirt. Once this was decided, she set her alarm for 5 in the morning and drifted off to sleep.
Lizzy was woken by her alarm the next morning, momentarily disoriented in her new surroundings. She crawled out of bed and washed her face. She ate a couple of pop tarts and changed into the clothes she'd set out the night before. She brushed her teeth and tried to think of anything else she might need. She had no idea what she was going to have to do. She pulled all her hair back and tied the bandana over it. She checked herself in the mirror, took a deep breath, and headed outside. She wasn't even sure where to meet Dan, but figured he would probably find her.

Dan had awaken at 4:00 am like always and was already outside. He was walking out of the barn after talking to the sttable hands asking them to not clean the stalls for that was going to be Lizzy's main focus today. He slowly walked with his Justin bots and spurs dangled and twinkled in the rising sun. He worse dark blue wranglers and a blackt-shirt with the sleeves cut off. His very musclar arms showed through them as he walked with long strides walking to the field next to the guest house where Carhartt was with about 30 cattle with him. he had them all tightly together while hegrazed. Dan walked up and whistled as Carhartt's head went flying up and saw Dan and did a collected canter to Dan. Dan slipped on a black halter and lead him out closing the gate behind him and walked into the barn.
He walked past a couple stalls then placed him in one and slipped the halter off and grabbed some plain oats and a flake of timothy hay. Walking out closiing the stall he walked back out of the barn and looked at the clock on the inside of the barn then ran to his truck and unlocked it. Slowly reaching across the seat he grabbed his black cowboy hat to finish his looks. He had his black t-shirt neatly tucked into his pants with a huge bull riding belt buckle. It was bigger then his fist, he had one it in the PROB rodeo about three years ago with Sheldon.... His late best friend.

Lizzy wasn't sure where to go, but she saw a lot of activity near the big bilding where the horses were kept. She was getting ready to enter the imposing building when she saw Dan out near his truck. She swallowed down her nerves and walked over. "Um, morning." He was looking very good and that just intimidated her further. She was looking rather cute with her hair up in the bandana and the jeans that did nothing to hide her curves.

Dan turned around placing his hat on his head, hearing her voice. Not knowing she was behind him real close he ran into her with his musclar chest hitting her. Hiting her kinda hard he saw it would probably knock her out of balance so relfexes he grabbed her hand and and made sure she wasn't gonig to fall and smiled lightly letting go replying,
[I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention. Oh and good morning.]
He smiled lightly feeling bad but happy he wouldn't let her fall. Dan's amazing blue eyes were hidden beneath the shadow of his black cowboy hat as he looked around a second then replied,
It was absolutly nothing hard and he didn't want to overwhelm her. He looke around a second then stepped forward with his musclar body and headed to the barn where most the comotion was. Today was a little busy alot of the ranchers whre getting on the ranch horses practicing getting ready for spring.

Lizzy tried to step back when she realized that Dan was going to run into her, but she wasn't quick enough. She gasped lightly as she was knocked off balance and then flinched as he grabbed her hand. It was an unconscious reaction. Tommy's dad had been quite nasty a couple times when he'd come home drunk. She quickly recovered her poise and smiled hesitantly. Mucking stalls sounded dirty and unpleasant, but for the pay, she'd do it. "Ok. I'm not even sure what that is, but ok."

Dan let a light chuckle at her ingnorance on horses, but it wasn't her fualt and he no reason to blame. He slowly walked into the barn as almost all the horses where gonce out with the ranch workers but like three. They all nickered lightly wanting to be taken out aswell as Carhartt. Dan turned and lookced over his broad cowboy shoulders,
[Muck'n stall is cleaning them. They're reall easy. Don't worry I'll help.]
Walked over to about 10 huge wheel barrows he grabbed a black one then a red ptich fork and walked to an empty stalland put the wheel barrow and walke into the stall and waited for Lizzy.

Lizzy was less than thrilled when she learned what mucking stalls meant. Scooping poop was not high on her list of fun jobs. But she supposed it could be worse. She watched him get the tools together and then followed him into the stall, wrinkling her nose at the smell.

Dan saw her wrinkle her nose and he laughed. He slowly walked to a pile and scopped it up and shook it getting most of the sawdust out and threwit in the wheel barrow. Then picking up every pile he went to the pee. He scopped it up untill there was no wet spot. He replied as the smeel arose but he made no expression,
[It's a good thing your getting paid 15 dollars an hour huh?]
He smiled lightly. Fifteen dollars was ALOT in this down, you were lucky if you got minum wage but Dan wasn't a cheap b.astard. He was real. He wanted to pay her a little extra aving her son and a dog and working a hard job really knowing nothing about. He finished and looked at her. He didn't even take five minutes. and replied,
[That how you do it... You can try the next stall. This one was so you could see how its done.]

Watching him clean up the mess, Lizzy was even more convinced that she was crazy to take the job and he was crazy to offer it to her. But she would do it for Tommy. She watched him, hiding her distaste. At least it didn't look all that difficult. She nodded when he finished and instructed her to do the next stall. She took the other pitch fork and headed to the next stall. Which happened to be occupied. She stood outside the stall, looking confused. Um, what do I do if there's one inside it?"

Smileing Dan open the stal and chuckled with his deep vocals trying not to be mean but nice,
[Pick around them. I pormise you all the horses here are very well trained, no stallions..... Well Carhartt but thats it. He's better then every horse here. But if you feel unsafe or just don't want to you can put its halter on and put them in cross ties untill your done.]
His raspy redneck deep vocals trailed as he opened it. It was Daisy. Trixie's sweet sweet mare that loved Trixie to peices. SHe was friendly to everyone though, but loved Trixie more then anyone by far. Dan slowly stroked her as she nuzzled him and he looked at Liz and replied,
[You can pet her, she's a doll. This is my daughter's horse.]
Dan was begining to call them well Trixie his daughter cause Trixie was beginging to call him dad. It had been the whole summer almost and she just began calling hi mthat. She had never had a dad and he was by far the best she probably could have.

Lizzy wasn't really thrilled with eaither option. One included being close to the very large beasts, the other included making one do what she wanted. She wasn't sure what a Carhartt was, but she was pretty sure a stallion was a boy horse. Halter, corss ties? These were all new vocabulary words for her. She was a little surprised to hear that he had a daughter and that he was old enough to have a daughter that was big enough to ride this huge horse. Lizzy knew that if she stayed here, she was going to have to get used to them sooner or later so she extended her hand hesitantly.

Daisy saw the hand that extended to her and she opened her mouth and her toungue came out and wrapped around her hand as Dan laughed. Daisy was so sweet and friendly she would never bite. Taking her hand into her mouth she then spat it out with no marks but spit. Dan slowly replied,
[She likes you. Oh and if you have any questions please ask darl'n.]
He said Darl'n as a sweet thing. It meant nothing more then friends. Dan would never pull that on a single mother so unsure of herself and scared. He was to modest and sweet. The opposite of his best friend Andy.

Lizzy wrinkled her nose. The mare's tongue felt strange and she wasn't thrilled to have her hand in a horse's mouth. She reached out to stroke the mare's neck and found it to be soft and smooth. She nodded at Dan and picked up the pitchfork from where she'd leaned it against the stall door. She stiffened a little at 'darlin' but it didn't sound like he meant anything by it.

Daisy stepped back when she grabbed the pitch fork and walked to the opening where she could stick her head out and lightly closed her big eyes. Dan smiled lightly and leaned against the stall door and watched her waiting for her to ask a question or something he hated not doing anything he was usualy the one doing everything but today he was teaching someone so....... He was bored.

Lizzy decided that there was no putting it off and went to work. She stuck the pitch fork in a pile of manure and lost about half of it when she tried to shake all the shavings out. It would just take a little practice to get the technique down.
Andy had gotten up early and helped his parents feed, then saddled up his big paint stud and rode over to the Y Z again. He liked visiting home once in a while, but it didn't take long for him to become bored in the small town and go hunting for kicks. He rode Mick right into the stable, ducking his head as they went through the door. He swung off and put Mick in an empty stall, quickly stripping him of saddle and bridle. He closed the stall door and headed down the aisle where he'd caught sight of Dan. "Standing around resting already lzy bones?"
