Lizzy was on the rails on the other side of the arena, watching with a mixture of surprise, fear, and anticipation as Andy climbed onto the back of a huge black, very mean looking bull. She gasped as the chute opened and the monster came out bucking.
Andy's body was shaken with each leap of the maddened beast, but he managed to hold his seat, even managed to give the bull a little spur. One particularly quick spin nearly unseated him, but recovered his balance just in time for the next big buck. Somone called out eight seconds and one of the riders headed his way. He slid off the bull but found his hand was caught in his strap he cursed loudly and tried to pull it free as the bull drug him across the ring, trying to swing its horns far enough around to hook him. One of the riders finally got his hand free and he stumbled away from the black bull. He was breathing hard, partly from adrenaline, partly from fear. Being attatched to an animal that weighed over a ton and would love to stomp you into the dirt was not a fun thing.

Dan was looking at Liz hen he heard eight seconds he looked at Andy and saw him slid off. As the world seemed to stop Dan saw his best friend hand get caught. Dan lunged over the railing without struggle and straight for the bull. Dan jumped to the bull as the bull jabbed a horn into his back but didn't cut. Just going to be a huge bruise. Dan freed his best friends hands from the bull as he fell to the gfround after the shock of his back. He then relized it wasn't his back. It was his shoulder that got jabbed with the horns. They sanded the point of the bulls horn but it still hurt like a b.itch. Dan groaned and replied to Andy,
[Your f.ucking lucky I love you man.]
Of course Dan ment like a brother as he groaned fro his bad shoulder. Dan had the same experience with getting his hand stuck in the rope but that was what ended his career.... He got it stuck in the rope for almost 5 minutes and his shoulder was amost literly pulled off but they managed to get him out. Dan DID NOT want that hapening to Andy as he slowly staggered up he threw his rough cowboy hand to Andy to help him up. Dan's shirt was ripped all the way in the back with some dripoing down and a huge bruise that that formed already with it covering his whole shoulder blade and more. Dan put his right arm out of course for he didn't wantto make the left any worse then it was. Dan's luck was he was left handed.

"You're a dumba.ss, but I owe you one." Andy gave Dan a hand up, flinching when he saw the bruise already forming. He flexed the hand that had been caught and grimaced. It was sore, quite sore, but didn't feel broken. "Well, at least you're not bored any more." He glanced over to the rail. "S.hit, she's gonna be freaking if she's never seen anything like this before. You okay though? That was a nasty hit."
Lizzy watched the ride with amazement. Why anyone who do this for a living astounded her. These men were crazy. They were a different breed that what she was used to. Tough, rugged, generous, polite for the most part, and crazy. She wasn't even aware something was wrong at first, but then she heard the cowboys shouting and saw Andy being drug and Dan hit. She gasped, frozen with fear, not sure what to do. They were insane. They could have been killed.

Dan shoulder hurt bad....... It was his bad one but he lied........... He slowly flexed, well tried as pain peirced his cowboy face with dirt and dust on it. Dan saw he couldn't flex period as he replied,
[S.hit. It's the bad one. It's just a dink, I'll be ok. Load another bull up!]
Dan yelled up at the boys who were astonished he would do this. Dan smiled his smartass way. Dan was begining to feel more younger and more reclous. If this happened and Andy wasn't here he would have never thought of getting back on especialy when he held the rope with his left hand that felt as if it was going to fall off, but Andy tended to do this to Dan. He walked over to the rail and didn't know there was blood or a bruise as he felt a draft and saw his shirt was ripped. Dan replied,
[This was my last clean one.]
He sighed as he pulled it off then stopped when he pulled his shoulder up thn very slowly took it off. His very muscular upper body showed and all the cowboy around him went ohhhh at the sight of the hit. It wasn't pretty or good at all but Dan didn't care he had to keep his pride. He had a six pack was nothing cloe to being hairy. He was tan too. He looked good, if you didn't look at his back.

Andy was not fooled when Dan said he was fine and he frowned when Dan told them to load up another bull. "Dan, there's a difference between tough and stupid. You're in no condition to ride. She's not worth getting killed." Andy wasn't naive as to what this whole riding thing had started over. He'd genuinely been wanting to ride, but it had also offered a chance to show off.
When Lizzy realized that Dan was going to ride a bull, she decided that bull headed should be added to the list of cowboy traits. Even from across the arena, she could see where the bull's horn had caught him. She though it had been wonderfully brave the way he'd stepped in to help his friend, but what he was doing now seemed ridiculously dangerous to her. She couldn't stay and watch him be trampled. She turned and nearly ran back to the stable, trembling slightly. This was a different world out here and she wasn't sure she liked it all that much.

Dan wasn't to stupid... Ok yah he was. He actualywasn't showing off he was just p.issed. He ahted being pushed around by a God D.amn bull. He had ended his career beacuse of a bul and decided tha the sohuldn't be stupid So he replied slowly,
[Someone get on the bull.]
He slowly climbed over the rail not using his left hand. He looked at Andy and glared at him as he looked to see where Lizzy was. She had left. Dan looked around a sedonc with his shirt in his hand and looking at Any and replied,
[Where did she go?]
Dan slowly walked to the barn she had been mucking stalls. Dan walked in and saw her. He slowly walked up to her as the blood dribbled down his muscular back. His muscles showed maraculiously as he replied softly to her,
[You ok?]
He looked at Andy with a confused way. He could never understand women sometimes. They could freak over such stupid things. Dan wasn't even scared for himself when Dan got stabbed in that back he was worried about Andy.

Andy was relieved when Dan indicated that he wouldn't ride the bull in the chute. They had been friends for a long time, but it was still nearly impossible to talk Dan out of anything he was set on doing, good idea or not. "Huh?" Andy glanced where Lizzy had been watching and realized that she wasn't there any more. He cursed under his breath and followed Dan back to the barn. Spending so much time with women, and many different ones, he had a bit more insight than Dan. Not that he would ever understand women, he could just make a few more educated guesses.
Lizzy whirled around at the voice, she'd kind of zoned out, replaying the horrid scene. She shivered slightly even as she nodded. Her attention was drawn to where the bull had hit him and she shrank back. "You do that for fun?"
Andy was beginning to realize what was wrong and had also gotten a better look at Dan's shoulder. He lowered his voice. "You need to get that looked at, why don't you let me handle this?"

Dan saw the expression on her face and heard her vocals that seemed angry and annoyed.... He took a step back as he slowly began to reply....... But he was cut off by Andy who literly told Dan that Lizzy was his now. Dan took a step from the blow as he gave him a look of nothing. No expression. Slowly he replied,
[I'm fine Andy thanks though. We're sorry if you don't like it but it's just something we enjoy. Sorry ma'am.]
He was now being respectful to her not wanting make her angry at him the she akready was. He glared at Andy. What was he trying to do push Dan off and away so he could have Lizzy? Well that would be a stab in the back...... Dan slowly looked to the ground then back up holding his ripped and dusty black shirt. The bruise was getting darker with black, blue and green but he didn't mind.

It was too much to take in. They enjpyed nearly getting killed and were now staring at each other like two male dogs with their fur up. Over her. Who didn't want attention from with of them. "I...I need to check on Tommy. I promise I'll be right back to finish these." She slipped past them both and walked quickly towards the guest house. Tommy would be fine. She'd explained to him the night before that he was to spend the day inside or in the fenced in backyard with Pilot. But she needed a few minutes to herself.
Andy watched her go, mildly irritated at Dan. He was acting like Andy was horning in on his territory, but earlier he'd told him that if he screwed with her, he better not hurt her. That sounded like an invitation to him, even though his intentions at the moment were pure. "Sometimes you are rather dense. And you really do need to get that looked at or at least go take a couple aspirin."

Dan watched her as she walked past him nd he took a step back so she didn't have to brush up against his bare chest. Dan looked at Andy and relized what he was doing, also p.issing him more and more. Slowly Dan began to walk out of the barn as he replied slowly,
The tone wasn't friendly at all it was deffening in anger acually, but of course he wasn't yelling just a p.issed off tone that usualy signalfied something and Andy had to be retardedif he didn't notice. Dan wasn't gonna have it looked at or take any meds. Money for the DR. looking at it and hee hated taking medecine. He was a typical cowboy had to take pain the real way. As he walked aaay hisbruise was worsening but nothing to bad. Something forstitches but he has needed stiches alot of times before and didn't get them and he was still alive.

Andy threw up his hands. "Do whatever the H.ell you want. Fix the d.amn fence." He wasn't sure exactly why Dan was so mad. He hadn't ragged on him any more than usual and he knew Dan well enough to know that it wasn't the encounter with the bull that had bothered him so much. His buddy wasn't usually one to fall for a woman and he'd though he'd heard him mention a girlfriend, but he sure was particular about this filly. He watched Dan leave, wondering whether he should just ride back home at this point.
Then Kelly came running from the direction of the house. "You said maybe I could ride Mick today." It sounded like a statement rather than a question. "Does that mean I should saddle the old man up?" Kelly nodded excitedly and Andy headed to the stall where he'd left the paint munching hay. It was a minute's work to tack him up again. As he was leading Mick outside, he happened to glance across the stable yard and see Lizzy with a boy he assumed was her son. He glanced down at the excited Kelly. "Have you met Dan's new stable girl? I think she has a son your age. Maybe he'd like to meet your pony. If you don't mind sharing." Lizzy shook her head, but her eyes lit up at the mention of someone her own age. "I didn't know, but I'll go get Buzz right now." While she was fetching her little Fjord Pony, Andy swung up in the saddle and trotted over to the guest house. "If you wouldn't mind, Dan's got a girl about your son's age. She'd love to meet him and show off her pony." He was a little surprised when the boy didn't look up from where he was playing with the dog.
Lizzy wasn't completely surprised when Andy came riding up on a very large horse. This horse looked like the mare she'd met this morning, patches instead of all one color. She was surprised when Andy mentioned the fact that Dan had a daughter. She was a little hesitant, knowing how cruel children could be, but it would be nice for Tommy to have a friend his own age. She read Andy's thoughts when Tommy didn't look up. {Tommy can't hear you. He's deaf. But he can read lips. I guess it would be okay. I don't know about the pony though...}
Andy grinned and saw Kelly come riding out on Buzz. She caught sight of him and loped over. "The pony's a sweetheart." As Kelly pulled up beside him, he slid off Mick and she did the same. "Lizzy, this is Kelly. Kelly, this is Lizzy and her son Tommy. He's deaf, so make sure he's looking at you when you talk. They've never been around horses before, so it might be good for them to start small. How about you introduce Mick?"
Lizzy had to smile at the cute, enthusiastic little girl. Tommy's attention had been caught by the horses and he ran over to the fence. He and Lizzy came through the back yard gate and Lizzy had to hole him back from rushing over to the horses. Kelly left Buzz ground hitched and walked over to Tommy, smiling. "I'm Kelly and this is Buzz. You can come pet him if you want. Horse like you to be on their left side. That's where you lead them." Andy laughed at her explanations. Lizzy looked a little worried. "They'll be fine. Why don't you come meet mister Mick here. He's a stallion, a boy horse that's like an unnuetered dog. He's 10 years old and I've had him since he was a foal, a baby horse." It was a lot to take in, but Lizzy was grateful that someone was finally explaining all these terms to her. "Like Kelly said, lead 'em from the left side. You get on, mount, from the left side too. Horse pick up on fear and take advantage of it, you just have to be confident. It's a lot to take in, but you'll get it. How 'bout a little ride?"
Kelly soon had Tommy grinning and laughing. He had no fear of the horses and was soon stroking Buzz's soft muzzle. Kelly even showed him how to get the pony to pick up his hoof. "Andy, is it okay if Tommy rides?" Andy gave Lizzy a questioning look. She shrugged helplessly. {I guess. But I'm not riding your stallion. He's so big!} Andy just laughed and picked Tommy up, plopping him in the pony's saddle. Kelly handed him the reins and led him off, chattering the whole time, explaining how to use his legs and reins. "She's a good kid. Tommy's in good hands. Now about this big horse. He's really a teddy bear." Before she could protest, he lifted her by the waist and put her on the stallion.

Dan had walked out of tha barn as he was slowly walking to the fance with nail and a hammer in his shoeing chapps. Dan knew real well how to shoed a horse and was the towns shoer. Well one and the best. He walked out in the field as the hot sun beat down hard and the sweat began to come down. He nailed each board perfectly straight and tight on so if the cattle decided to kick it it waould take more then a few small hits. Dan wiped his forehead as the sweat came down. It wasn't gross or anything hell most girls, well cowgirls thought it was hot when a cowboy worked hard for a life.
He had finished finally and stood up wipping his forehead he saw Kelly, Tommy, Andy and Lizzy. He slowly walked as he moved his shoulder in a very slow rotating way as it stung as the salty sweat dripped into the puncture wound. He didn't have his shirt on but really didn't need one. Almost every rancher on the Y Z didn't wear a shirt in the hot summer or when they were hot period. Dan slowly walked past the guest house not eyeing any of them not careing anymore. It was no use.
Trixie jumped out of the front porch and trotted down the stairs as she saw Dan she smiled and wave and ran to him. She replied sweetly then stopped when she saw his back and almost barfed at the sight. She had a really weak stomach,
[Dan?! What happen? Are you ok? Oh My God that looks real bad.]
Dan shrugged as he slowly replied,
[Me and a bull had a mis-have situation while I was saving Andy's life. Yah it hurts but it aint bad. I'll be fine hun. Surprised your not with Matt.]
Trixie smiled her beautiful way as she let the sun beat off her golden blonde hair and amazing blue optics. Her sweet beautiful vocals replied,
[That's why I'm out right now looking for him. You haven't seen him have you?]
Dan shook his head with his cowboy hat on and Trixie smiled as she ran off to the barn. She pulled a halter on Daisy and jumped on. Walking out of the barn she then kissed to Daisy and Daisy was off. Daisy had a bald face with all four white socks over her knees and on patch of white on her left barrel. THat was the only white paint spot while the rest was sorrel. Daisy bolted as they ran past the guest house at a great speed and her long curly blonde hair flew behind her and she had a great seat on the mare that was flying off the gravel into the field where Trixie thought that might where Matt is.
Dan laughed at his "daughter" as he walked to the field and whistled. There were about 50 cattle in there and a big ol'stallion. Carhartt looked up and softly galloped to Dan and Dan slipped on a black halter and walked him out closing the gate behind him. He walked the massive stallion that stood 16.1 and full AQH. His body was massive in mucsle and very studly. He had an amzing look to him and was very stocky. Dan and Carhartt were both very muscular and toned out. They were very similar.

Lizzy held back a squeal as she was lifted onto the stallion's high back. "There ya go. We'll shorten these stirrups a little and you'll be all set. This is a western saddle and you'll hold the reins in one hand, like this." He demonstrated and then went to work, shortening the stirrups a good deal. When he'd showed her how to put her feet, he led Mick forward. She grabbed at the horn with one hand, but held the reins with the other. He walked her around in a circle and could see her starting to relax. She even smiled when she saw Tommy waving from Buzz's back. They both rode around for a few minutes before Lizzy remembered that she had a job to do and this was not getting it done.
"Thank you very much for the lesson, but I really should be getting back to work." Andy could understand that. She was getting paid for a day's work and a proud woman like her would want to put in a day's work. He offered her a hand as he coached her in the dismount. She flinched a little as he took her hand. He turned hand over and saw several angry red blisters. Her hands weren't used to such work. She blushed. He shook his head and pulled his work gloves from his back pocket. "Wear these. They'll be too big, but they'll do until you get a pair of your own. You oughta go into town and get some range clothes." Lizzy blushed again. "I don't even know what I need. Thank you for the loan of the gloves." "When you're free some afternoon, I don't mind going with you and giving you some tips. And Tommy needs a Stetson." Andy grinned. Lizzy smiled back and then headed over to where Tommy was still riding. Andy watched her go thoughtfully. Lizzy let herself be talked into allowing Tommy to play with Kelly and then headed back to the barn to finish the stalls.
Matt was working with Skeeter in the round pen. The sorrel's shoulder had healed and Matt had decided he would do better as a cow horse than a bronc. He watched him circling the small ring, watching his movements and his body language. He turned his back on the stallion and was rewarded by the sorrel coming into the center and standing with his nose on Matt's shoulder. Matt gave a small smile and turned, rubbing th sorrel's neck and murmuring to him in Apache. The stallion's ears pricked, like he was listening and they were having their own privated conversation.

(ooc/ I think I have some Muse. ;D ) Trixie Saw Matt and slowed Daisy down as the mare trotted up to the round pin and Trixie sat listening to Matt talking to the stallion as she smiled sweetly and Daisy was quite like always being good and sweet. Trixie leaned forward and let her legs lay on the mares back as Trixie stretched her whole body on Daisy while Daisy just stood there. Trixie smiled and waited till he was done and slowly replied,
[Howdy horse whisperer.]
She smiled sweetly as Daisy nickered softly to Matt, like saying hey I know you. Trixie patted her neck as she stayed laying on the paint. Mean while Dan was off doing something productive. He was in the barn on the last stall. He had cleaned all of them and was almost done with the last. He didn't care what Lizzy was doing he needed it done. He wasn't mad at her and she was still getting full pay. Dan grunted as he had a shirt on now that had spot where blood had leaked through. He didn't know though and he kept cleaning with his bad shoulder. He picked a large pile and groaned in pain and dropped it on the ground as it went all over. He mumbled under his breath,
[D.amn it.]
Each stall was harder and harder because of his shoulder using it more and more. It wasn't smart of him but he had to make sure things got done. The horses never did anything wrong and deserved a nice clean stall and Dan wanted to do this for them. It was already 4:15 p.m and the stall were usually cleaned by 7:00 a.m and they were picked out through out the day. Finlay the pain leaked in more as more blood came out but not much now. He leaned against the stall wall with his hat hitting it and falling off. He groaned as he bent over picking it up with his right hand. He was left handed so use to using it but now using his right wasn't easy.
Dan Finlay stopped taking a breather and picked the last of the stall as he looked at the full wheel barrow and picked it up and then dropped it. It was too heavy for his shoulder but being a hard headed cowboy he picked it up as it stung and walked forward then stopped. He whipped his forehead as he took off his ranch gloves and his right hand brushed his face then into his hair with annoyance. It always seemed Andy got the girls and they always like the rough and crazy ones and Dan wasn't like that. His parents taught him manners and work and thats what he did. He always held doors open, said please and thank you, tipped his hat, smiled sweetly, rarely flirting for he told it was disrespectful. His daddy taught Dan with a rough hand but loved him with all his heart. The flash back came when the accident happened. The accident was horrible. Dan had witnessed it and it was a horrible death. A tractor accident.....The flash back hit him hard as he became dizzy and the room began to spin as he stepped back in his Justin boots tripping over them. He stumbled over them as the the dizziness got worse and worse. He fell backward landing on his left shoulder and winced in pain.
Laying on the ground he was still spinning. It was the mixture of everything from de-hydration,his shoulder, anger, and the accident flash back. Mostly the hydration and the shoulder. Dan layed on the ground unable to move from the dizziness. He closed his amazing blue optics and the spinning still was going on. He bent his leg as his knee came up and his hat was lying next to him. Groaning he tried standing but just fell back for the spinning and pain was to much. For some reason Dan coughed and almost threw up. He did that when he was to de-hydrated. He coughed again as he layed on the ground in the empty clean stall.

Skeeter was the first to notice the two newcomers. He nudged Matt and then trotted over to the fence and whinnied loudly. Matt wasn't sure what had caught the stallion's attention until he saw Daisy and Trixie. He ambled over to the fence and stood on the first rail. He grinned lazily and patted the sorrel's neck. "Howdy girls. He's doing pretty good." Skeeter spun in a circle and reared, showing off for the mare. Matt dodged his hooves, laughing at the young stallion.
Lizzy entered the barn and was surprised to find that the cleaning supplies weren't where she'd left them. She walked down the aisle and saw that all the stalls were clean. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do now, so she decided to look around for Dan or ask Andy if she couldn't find Dan. She was heading out of the barn when she heard someone cough in the last stall. She glanced inside and saw Dan sprawled in the stall. She rushed in and knelt by his side. Lizzy had no medical training, but it was obvious he was sick and something was very wrong. "Oh my God. Dan..." She hadn't been able to believe when he'd walked away from getting hit by the bull. It looked like he'd been the one to clean all the stalls and hadn't gotten his shoulder looked at. She didn't know what to do and Dan needed help. "I'll be right back."
She ran out of the barn and was relieved to see that Andy was still over near the guest house. Tommy was riding in front of him and Kelly was riding her pony. Lizzy ran over and stood gasping for a minute. "Dan's hurt. He collapsed. I don't know how to help him." Andy swore under his breath. He handed Tommy down to Lizzy and kicked Mick towards the barn. Kelly looked like she was about to follow him. "Kelly, could you please stay here with Tommy? I'll come get you when I know what's wrong with him." Tommy was happy to stay and play with the horses and though Kelly watched Lizzy run back to the barn worried.
Andy pulled Mick to a sliding stop and jumped off the paint's back. He ran into the stall and swore again when he saw Dan. "D.amnit! What were you thinking! Dan...sometimes I think you're horse has more brains than you do. You're going to see a doctor. If I have to drag you myself."
